Today we are talking about engagement sessions. Engagement sessions are one of my all time favorite things to photograph, right behind the wedding of course! I truly believe that engagement sessions are such an important piece of your wedding and everyone should have one. Which is why I broke down my top 5 reasons why for you!
1. We’re going to get cozy
Having an engagement session is SUCH an awesome way for us to get cozy and comfortable with each other. We’ll get to know each other better and you’ll get comfortable with my camera. Seriously, it’s one thing to feel comfortable with me and another to feel comfortable with my camera clicking in front of you. Trust me, I do everything to make you feel 100% natural in front of the camera but the best way to feel normal in front of the camera is to get in front of it!
2. Help you to know what to expect on your wedding day
This goes hand in hand with my first reason why engagement sessions are so important. We are going to do a ton of fun, silly, and quirky things during your engagement session. Don’t let that scare you off! It’s how we get those real belly laughs and capture your natural love in photos. If you have an engagement session with me before your wedding day, you will be pros in front of the camera on your wedding day! So when I have you do silly things in your wedding clothes, you’ll think “Oh yeah we did this before!” It helps add another layer of comfort in front of the camera on your wedding day.
3. Memories to look back on
An engagement session is perfect to capture this very short time in your life. Whether you’re engaged for 2 months or 2 years, in the grand scheme of life, it is a short time! When you buy the house and raise the babies, it will be so important to look back on the photos and remember that happy and giddy time of life right after you said “Yes” to getting married and right before you said “I do” to forever.
4. Built in date
Engagement sessions are FUN. Seriously, I know it can be nerve wracking to get in front of a camera for the first time (look back at numbers 1 & 2) but I promise we’re going to have fun. We aren’t going to be doing stiff prom photos in front of a black backdrop. Heck no. Want to go drive up the coast and have a picnic on the beach? Perfect, that can be your engagement session. Want to go hiking in a National Park and crack a beer at the top of the trail? Sweet, that can be your engagement session. Engagement sessions are a way for you to have a fun built in date with your fiance AND come out with amazing memories!
5. Use them for your wedding
A super bonus of getting engagement photos is that you can use them for your wedding! Save the Dates and wedding invitations become more personalized with your engagement photos and it’s a great way to show off your new found model status to family and friends. You can also use them in your guest book at the wedding, on thank you notes for engagement or bridal shower gifts, and as decorations at your wedding!
