Hello ladies!
Today I wanted to talk with you all about how to get those beautiful getting ready photos we have all seen on Pinterest. The girls crowded around beaming at you, mom zipping up the dress…you know exactly what I’m talking about! Of course, I will be there to capture those photographs for you, but there are a few things you can do to prepare your getting ready location for the best photos possible.
1. The location
The location of where you get ready is going to be my first tip because it’s so important! My best advice to brides is to look at Airbnbs before hotel rooms. There are so many affordable Airbnbs with huge windows for natural light, beautiful living areas for the big group photos, and full kitchens so you can whip up those mimosas! We can still get beautiful photos in hotel rooms so I don’t want you to stress if a hotel is your top choice. However, I do love to give my brides the Airbnb tip because they can be comparable in price but give you more beds for the girls to sleep in, more bathrooms for getting ready, and let’s be honest, an overall better aesthetic!
2. The night before
The next tip I have for seamless getting ready photos, is to get all your details gathered together the night before your wedding. You can do this or ask one of your bridesmaids to help with this! When I arrive the morning of your wedding I like to come in, say hi, squeal because OMG YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED, and then get to work photographing your gorgeous details. It makes the morning go smoothly if we have those details gathered before I get there. You’ll want to have your ring, your fiances ring, a wedding invitation set if you have one, the perfume you’re wearing, your shoes, your veil, any jewelry, and all other special details (think your something blue or borrowed items) all put together in a nice area that I can easily grab! That way you can focus on getting your hair and makeup done without having to answer questions about where your veil ran off to!
3. The morning of
My final tip is for the morning of your wedding. Brides I always encourage you to ask your bridesmaids to take care of this one for you! With a group of girls in a room there can be a lot of extra clothes, bags, and things that wind up on the floor. We want to avoid having that in your photos! So the morning of, ask your girls if they can help to keep the floors clear of any extra items and designate a room in the Airbnb or a corner of the hotel room to be where all the shoes, duffle bags, curling irons, and empty champagne bottles end up. This helps keep you from stressing about where to put everything, lets your girls help you out, and gives you a clean background for your gorgeous photos!
4. Bonus tip
Enjoy the morning of your wedding day! This is the huge day that you have planned for and you are about to be married! Have a mimosa if that’s your thing, look around at all the important people in your life who are there with you, and enjoy being pampered. It’s your wedding day girl, have fun!
