Hello ladies!
Today we are going to be talking about flowers. They are one of the most beautiful parts of your day and something I absolutely love photographing. There is nothing like a stunning bridal portrait with her bouquet! Did you know I also offer custom floral arrangements for my brides who are eloping? YUP. So florals are seriously one of my favorite parts of your day. Keep reading to see my tips!
1. Figure out what is important to you.
Sit down and think about what is important for you to have on your wedding day with florals. For most brides a bridal bouquet is a must. But what about bridesmaid bouquets, boutionners, table settings, arbor decor, cake florals, and flower girl petals? You may want a special bouquet to honor a loved one who has passed or a corsage to give to your grandma. Think about what is most important for you to have with florals and make a list of your most to least important items.
2. Decide on your budget.
This is going to be an important one. I absolutely love florals but the cost can add up. Think about what you are willing to spend on florals and set that budget. The great thing is that many florists can work with a budget you specify and create you something beautiful with whatever your budget is. Also be realistic. If you ask for a large bridal bouquet, full arbor decor, 7 bridal bouquets, 8 boutionners, and extravagant centerpieces but have a budget of $200, it isn’t realistic to ask a florist to be able to provide all of that. Make sure you follow tip #1 and have your most important items in mind, your top budget, and work with your florist with an open mind!
3. Get inspiration.
This is the fun part! You know what you want and have your budget in mind, time to figure out what your style is! Of course Pinterest is an amazing place to start as well as Instagram. Search for keywords to find florals that best match what you’re going for. Ex: “Boho blue wedding flowers” or “Pink desert bridal bouquet”. Think about what the theme or vibe of your wedding is and search for those keywords on Pinterest. It helps to sort through the millions of photos to find ones that will best match your inspiration. On instagram search hashtags like #bohobridalflowers or #beachelopementflowers. Save your inspiration photos to show your florist!
4. Be open to options.
Ok, you know your budget, what you want, and have your inspiration! Time to meet with your florist and start deciding on what type of flowers you’ll want. Most florists will ask if there is anything you absolutely do not want to see in your florals and also ask what you’d love to see. As I’ve mentioned though, florals can add up, especially to recreate Pinterest photos. So be open to options! Baby’s-breath is a wispy floral that takes up space and can be used as a filler in your florals. Peonies are very popular but Ranunculus is a more affordable option with a very similar feel. Ask to have Peonies and Ranunculus mixed together. There are a lot of affordable options that can give you the same feel and vibe that you’re going for!
Those are a few of my top tips for you ladies! There is no right or wrong way to have wedding florals. Find your inspiration and go from there. Have fun with it! Florals are beautiful and they’ll be the icing on the cake of your wedding day. And I’ll be there to document them forever!
Warmly,
