Hello beautiful brides-to-be!
Today I wanted to talk to you about skincare before your wedding day. Maybe you have a full skincare routine already down to your toner or maybe you use a bar of soap and call it a day. Whatever works for you! However, I don’t know a bride who doesn’t want to have the best skin she can on her wedding day and for the photos that will be captured that day.
That’s why I want to share a few of my top do’s and don’ts of skincare as a bride. Let’s jump in!
*Disclaimer: I am not a professional esthetician or dermatologist.
DO: Cleanse your face. This may seem like a no-brainer but it’s a key factor in keeping your skin bright and healthy before your wedding. If you have a go-to skin cleanser you already use, keep using it in the morning and at night. If you don’t have a cleanser you love, find out your skin type (oily, dry, normal, or combination) and search for a cleanser for that skin type. Try it out at least a month before your wedding to make sure your skin reacts ok with it. A great one I personally love is the Fresh Soy Face Wash. It’s gentle and I know friends of all skin types who like it!
DON’T: Change things. The week of your wedding, you definitely want to keep your usual face routine without any changes. It’s not the week to try out a new mask, face oil, or cleanser! You don’t want to have a negative reaction like swelling or redness to any new items so it’s best to keep with your usual routine so that you know what works well for your skin.
DO: Sweat, sleep, and hydrate. These are three things that will be good for your mental health in the week of your wedding as well! I know that my skin breaks out when I’m stressed, lacking sleep or not drinking enough water. Wedding planning can be stressful! The week of your wedding, do your best to drink plenty of water each day (the Mayo Clinic recommends 11.5 cups of fluid a day for women), try out a new yoga class on YouTube or go for a walk, and let yourself rest!
DON’T: Book new facial services. I know so many of my brides who treat themselves to a massage or manicure the week of their wedding. Go girl, you deserve it! But I would steer away from any facial services at the spa, such as peels or facials unless you know your skin reacts well to them. Again, you don’t want to have any new redness, swelling, or discoloration the day of your wedding. That’s one less thing you want to worry about!
These are a few do’s and don’ts that I think can apply to any bride, regardless of your skin type! You will look glowing on your wedding day no matter what, but these definitely won’t hurt.
Warmly,
Hilary Kao
