I am all about making my couples feel absolutely amazing in front of the camera and that includes helping you feel confident in the outfits you choose for your engagement session. One of my most frequently asked questions is what to wear during an engagement session. Don’t worry guys, I got you!
Tip 1: Avoid bright colors and noisy patterns. These types of clothing items can really take away from you two during your session and that’s the opposite of what we’re trying to do! I want the focus to totally be on you two and not a neon shirt or crazy pattern. Neutral clothing tends to photograph amazingly and doesn’t overpower the photo or shift attention away from you guys. Earthy tones are super flattering on every skin tone and help keep you guys as the focal point in photos. Think olive green, mustard yellow, dusty rose, lavender, powder blue, or creamy taupes. These colors will photograph great!
Tip 2: Dress for movement. While I totally encourage you wearing anything that feels like you and makes you feel amazing, having items that move can really add to your photos. Especially for the ladies! Having a flowy dress adds so much movement to your photos and helps add to the overall feel of a joyful and playful engagement session. If you’re not into dresses, think about wearing a cute pair of jeans and a slouchy tee or sweater. For the men, I think a nice pair of neutral pants that allows you to move around is key. I’ll have you guys moving around during your session so you both want to be able to comfortably dance, jump, and sway around! I think a casual button-up is perfect to match with the pants for the men.
Tip 3: Wear something that feels like you. This may seem obvious, but you should wear clothes that feel like you and not what you think you have to wear. For example, don’t wear a dress just because I gave you a tip to wear a dress. If you absolutely never wear dresses, don’t wear one during your engagement session! Because that won’t feel true to you and all the movement in the world won’t help you feel comfortable and confident, which is key. While I do think it’s fun to get a little dressier than your average Netflix and Chill day, if you guys are always rocking band tees, wear band tees for your session! My first two tips help add to the overall aesthetic of your photos, but the most important thing for me is that you guys feel comfortable. Because when you feel comfortable, you’ll be able to embrace your time with me even more and get cozy and cute in front of the camera even faster!
