Thinking of eloping in a national park? Here are my top tips and things to consider:
-
Apply for a permit with the National Park Service. Don’t wait till the last minute for this step!
-
Make sure you know the restrictions! Most national parks will let you bring in organic materials like flowers but won’t let you toss confetti.
-
Consider hiring a coordinator to help you plan the logistics, especially if you’re planning to host guests. Take care of the bathroom situation. Decide how guests are getting to the event.
-
Find the spot you want to have your wedding before the big day. Ideally, visit the location first. If you’re having a hard time finding the location, browse Pinterest, ask the park ranger, ask your photographer, etc. Try to anticipate weather.
-
Decide if you want sunrise or sunset photos
-
Choose your outfit and plan the logistics of hiking to your favorite spot accordingly. You may want to get ready once you get to your spot instead of hiking in your dress.
